OTHER PROJECTS

FMI has demonstrated its diverse capabilities through several significant projects, including the Portage Pea Plant, the Winchelsea Underwater Cable, and the Site C Balance of Plant.

In the Winchelsea Underwater Cable project, FMI replaced four existing 25 kV subsea cables and installed a 48-strand fibre optic cable between Nanoose Bay and Winchelsea Island, part of the Ballenas-Winchelsea Archipelago off the east coast of Vancouver Island. The project scope included preparing shorelines, site clearing, trenching, cable laying, shoreline installation, terminations, testing, and commissioning, along with landfall work at both locations. This work ensures reliable connectivity and power distribution to the island.

For the Site C Balance of Plant project, part of BC Hydro’s Site C Clean Energy Project in northeast British Columbia, FMI handled extensive electrical, architectural, HVAC, and fire protection work. The electrical work involved installing and commissioning water-to-wire equipment, cable trays, cables, and various systems like protection, control, telecom, and security. The architectural work included constructing masonry walls, carpentry, gypsum installation, acoustic insulation, building thermal insulation, metal flashing, fireproofing, fire stopping, doors, windows, flooring, painting, plumbing fixtures, and more. FMI's HVAC responsibilities encompassed designing, supplying, and installing the HVAC system, air intake hoods, concrete pads, cabling, instrumentation, electrical motors, motor starters, variable frequency drives, and integrating the fire alarm control panels. The fire protection work involved designing, supplying, and installing a comprehensive fire protection system, connecting the private fire service main to the generator deluge system, and installing various safety systems.

At the Portage Pea Plant in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, FMI contributed to Roquette Canada Ltd's new pea protein production facility, which will process 125,000 tonnes of yellow peas annually. FMI's electrical and instrumentation work included installing electrical temporary works, grounding, e-houses, transformers, generators, capacitor banks, cable trays, control cables, and fibre optic cables. The civil work comprised direct bury trench work, concrete duct banks, excavation, backfilling, and concrete forming. This project will support the production of powdered fibres, protein, and starch for the pharmaceutical, nutrition, and food sectors.

These projects highlight FMI's ability to manage and execute complex tasks, showcasing their proficiency in enhancing infrastructure and supporting large-scale, sustainable energy initiatives.
