Arcencial Synchronous Condenser

ABB was awarded a contract by ATCO Electric to design, supply and install a Synchronous Condenser at the Arcenial Substation located just outside of Rainbow Lake, Alberta. FMI is completed the electrical installation portion of the project. This work consists of installing indoor metal clad Arc-resistant switchgear, 600 Volt switchgear, and Motor Control Centre (MCC) line-ups. Also included:
• Install and terminate 15 kV MV cables from MV Switchgear to Synchronous Condensor;
• Install cables and terminate connections for Synchronous Condensor Outdoor coolers and all other auxiliary systems;
• Install Synchronous Condenser Neutral Grounding Resistor (NGR) and connect to ground;
• Supply, install and terminate all necessary cabling within the Protection & Control room and all communication cables;
• Connect busbars between Switchgear and MCCs and terminate all CT and PT cables originating from the switchgear;
• Installation of equipment grounding to building grounding system.

Work started in September 2012 and was completed in February 2013
