FMI wins Gold at the 2017 VRCA Awards

Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) "Awards of Excellence"
FMI wins Gold at the 2017 VRCA Awards $8 Million

Project Overview

The Big Bend project in Burnaby was one of the more challenging projects FMI wrapped up in 2017.

Clearly, we were up to the challenge. Ten members of the FMI team were on hand at the Vancouver Regional Construction Association awards gala in October to witness the VRCA select Big Bend for its 2017 Gold Medal Award of Excellence for electrical contractors, $2 million to $8 million. Each year, the VRCA recognizes the finest companies, projects and individuals in the construction industry. Three Silver Award winners are selected in 15 project categories for their use of innovative techniques, new materials and/or exceptional project management. One silver winner from each category is awarded gold.

The judges cited the following “Wow Factor” in our win: hosting an on-site safety seminar engaging the workforce, subtrades and clients to further bolster the commitment to safety at all levels of this project. Big Bend substation project for BC Hydro included installation of a control building, gas insulated switchgear building with 14 reactors, 60 kV switchyard including two transformers, transmission structures and tie-in to existing lines, and underground installation of ductbanks, manholes and cable trench.
